Jul 3, Tomorrow we celebrate our Independence Day!

Today is officially the last work day before the holiday weekend! Where will you be celebrating our Independence Day?

Do you have national spirit? Does being an American, on a day like tomorrow, give you an excited feeling in your chest? Or is tomorrow a day to drink beer, eat good food, watch fireworks and get together with family? Or is tomorrow all of the above.

When I go on the yearly pontoon parade down the Chippewa River tomorrow and see all those flags flying, and hear the music of our country playing, and see all of my country men waving to one another, excited to be in the country we call home, I'm going to think about how lucky I am. How lucky my kids are. How grateful I am to people like my dad and all the other veterans who have won our freedom.

Happy Independence Day Chippewa Valley!

Jul 1, To smoke or not to smoke?

That may be a valid question; but where you can smoke isn't anymore. Come July 1st there will be a city wide smoking ban in Eau Claire.

This debate has ignited a bit of a fire among smokers and non-smokers alike. I have to say I am still on the fence about this. The Buzz has fielded responses from citizens of the Chippewa Valley, and I have been swayed both ways.

How do you feel about the Eau Claire smoking ban? Visit the link below to post your thoughts, rants or raves on the new law due to hit our city tomorrow.

Make your voice heard! Hey, let us know if you're a smoker or non, and how this effects you.

Apr 17, Wisconsin Walley Fishing in the Chippewa Valley

Opening day is almost upon us and while there are many great waters for Wisconsin walleye fishing, the Chippewa Valley is home to three great lakes.

It is fun to journey to the Mississippi River to fish below dams, or the Alma Float before the inland opener. The fishing opener on inland lakes such as those in the Chippewa Valley is the long awaited prize after a winter on the ice.

The Chippewa Valley is home to three great lakes for Wisconsin walleye fishing: Lake Wissota, Dells Pond, and Lake Altoona. If youre not up for a long drive to catch some fresh Wisconsin walleyes, or a long launch line. . .

Apr 11, Stampin' N Scrappin' Expo

I think this one might be for the ladies; or possibly not. There might be some men out there who enjoy this kind of thing. I hear this scrap booking stuff is pretty addicting. My sister-in- law goes every year to the Dells for a whole weekend to do it. She does make some nice things for her kids, and even for mine. I am a mom of three, and sometimes I actually feel a little guilty for not putting together books of my beautiful kids. I do have boxes though with all their important stuff; hospital hats, foot prints, baptism candles, first artwork masterpieces. Sometimes I go through the boxes and wish for the time back. So my boxes are kind of like scrap books, just not so organized. So if you would like to put together some memory books, do a little stampin' and scrapin', Eau Claire's very own 29 Pines will be hosting an event.

Stampin' N Scrappin' Expo
April 12, 9am-4pm
29 Pines - Eau Claire
*Make and takes demonstrations, stamps & embellishments, scrap booking ideas, and inks & papers. All profits benefit Women's Education. Tickets are $3.00 in advance and $5.00 at the door. Advance tickets available at: Gordy's County Market, downtown Chippewa Falls and Birch Street locations, and Mega in Chippewa Falls and Hastings Way, Eau Claire.

Apr 9, Birthday Freebies

Hey there Chippewa Valley! So today for lunch I went with a few co-workers to Cancun on the west side of Eau Claire. There were $1 margaritas, I would have liked to have had one, but being that I am new to the company I didn't want to come off as the new girl who drinks on her lunch break. It was the birthday of one of my co-workers and I just had to let our waiter know about it. I have seen it done before, all the waiters come out with a big sombrero to place on the birthday girl's head while playing their guitars and serenading her in Spanish. I love that kind of stuff. People should be celebrated on the day of their birth. Even if it is men from another country singing in a language I cant understand; in fact, what could be better? Well at Cancun they also take some whip cream and rub it on the person's face at the end of the song, I'm not sure why. Is it some Mexican tradition? If you know the answer let me know. So anyways, they also give you some type of custard for a birthday desert, which nobody at my table ate. It tasted pretty good to me. I got to wondering, what other birthday specials are there around town. We all know that you can go down to Water Street and get some free shots, but what else? I want to know. Where can I go come December 18th of 2008 when I turn the big 30 for some birthday treats? Let me know - follow the permalink.

Apr 6, The Viennese Ball vs. Shenannigans

The 34th Annual Viennese Ball is coming up and I don't know how to ballroom dance. The extent of my dancing career has been at wedding receptions with a few drinks on board to songs like "Fishing in the Dark" and "Love Shack". Come on, you know you like getting a little tipsy at wedding dances and rippin' up the dance floor to the local dj's spin, (did I say that right?)

I also can tell you that in my younger days I actually won a little dance contest at Eau Claire's very own Shenannigans. This will date me, but I can still remember the song I won it to... "Come baby, come baby, baby come come, ya gotta give me lovin' and ya gotta give me some". And do you remember that part "swing batta, batta, batta, batta, batta swing!" Well, can you see me, I was pretending to swing a bat.. How glad am I that they didn't have camera phones back then? Actually, that gives me an idea. I'm going to head out to YouTube right now and see if I can find any awesome aka "hilarious" dancing videos. I'll post them on The Buzz. Maybe you'll even share some of you're awesome aka "hilarious" dancing videos or stories. We could all use a little humor in our lives... so stay tuned Chippewa Valley!

More on The Viennese Ball later, I got a little side tracked.

Hey Chippewa Valley! Hope you all had a great start to your week - we did here at The BUZZ. I wanted to let you know about a new page category on chippewavalleybuzz.com called Extra! Extra!

The BUZZ is an entertainment guide; it is here to provide the Chippewa Valley with comprehensive information on what to do for fun, entertainment should be fun right?! Sometimes we receive submissions from non-profits having fundraisers, health conferences or business events to name a few which don't quite fit into any of the entertainment categories listed on the site.

We think it's imporant to list these events, although they are not entertainment pre se, they are community events and community outreach is a great thing. So if you are looking for events in the area that are educational, business or volunteer oriented you can check out the Extra! Extra! page. You should take a look at it now and then. Becoming smarter and giving to the community never hurt anybody!

So there's this neat new restaurant in Chippewa Falls called Bridge St. Station; they're all about old fashioned hamburgers and malts, Yummy! Well they are having outdoor movies during the month of September celebrating classic train movies, and one of my favorite movies of all time is one of them. It's a FREE event next to the restaurant under a big tent starting at 8pm, or sunset. The next one is Sept. 21 and they will be showing Silver Streak (PG); and on Sept. 28 they will be showing my favorite, The Polar Express (G).

Doesn't that sound like fun? I think it does! Crisp fall evening, bundled up in a lawn chair with "someone special" or the children - have you gathered yet that I'm a girl? How many men would write "crisp fall evening" or "bundled up with someone special"? Not many I don't think. But don't hit me with phrases like sexual discrimination or anything like that. If you are a guy and like to use the phrase "crisp fall evening" then I will eat my words.

Anyways, it's Sunday night and I've been plugging away here at my lap top working to bring you all the entertainment the Chippewa Valley has to offer and it's time for this little girl to hit the hay! That's another thing, I may be over the age where people would call me a "girl", they'd most likely say woman, but I don't care; I just like the word. Have a great week Chippewa Valley. Enjoy yourselves, have some .$99 margaritas, get some two for one burgers with some friends, sing karaoke!!

What a great way to kick off the first weekend of Fall. Maybe we'll see you there. You probably won't be able to miss us. I'll be the REALLY pregnant red head waddling around with the two cutest little blond girls you've ever seen! Have a great weekend Chippewa Valley!

Sep 7, The Indoor Sports Center

Hey moms and dads! Today is a day my little girl has been waiting for all summer long - The Indoor Sports Center is now open for the Saturn Hummer Family Fun Zone; and what a perfect day to go. I would have felt a little bad going to an indoor play area with the sun shining so brightly like it has been the last few days, but rain - perfect! The Family Fun Zone boasts a huge soccer field full of inflatables, riding toys, big parachute games & so much more, plus a snack bar. The hours are 9-11:30 Monday, Thursday & Friday, adults are free and each child is $2.50. It's totally worth it. Maybe we'll see you there. Have a great Friday Chippewa Valley and an even better weekend!

Sep 5, Another Hot One!!

It's Fall now, sort of. It's been pretty hot, and will be hot again today, but that's not going to last. I have to say I'm looking forward to the Fall weather, but will definitely enjoy our last few days of summer. Tonight you can go to the Heyde Center for the Arts in Chippewa Falls for their second to last Wednesday Night Concerts on the Hill. Lawrence Abrams will be performing his "Symphony in Nature". His fiddle blends, haunting harmonica tones, and spellbinding wilderness tales, weave a tapestry of wind, rain, lakes, clouds, sunshine and the seasons as he performs pop, country, rock and show tunes that speak of nature (starts at 7pm, $3). I think that sounds like a great way to wind down the season. What else, well, while you're in Chippewa Falls you can visit Bresina's, a town favorite, for $1 burgers from 4-8pm. They are located on Grand Avenue. Enjoy your day Chippewa Valley!

Aug 27, It's Almost Here...

Fall in the Chippewa Valley is going to be pretty great this year. It's my favorite time of the year because of the weather, you know, digging out your sweaters and your jeans, the crisp air, and of course the leaves, (have you figured out that I'm a girl yet?) And who could forget football, not on the top of my list, but I do love all the Wisconsin spirit the Pack seems to bring out in everyone. Oh, and how about pie, apple pie. And your entertainment options for this Fall season are even better. There are at least 3 big music festivals, The International Fall Festival and a Booya & Fall Festival at Beaver Creek Reserve to name just a few; not to mention apple orchards galore. I am super pumped to ring in the upcoming cool weather with some good music, good food and good fun Chippewa Valley style!!

Aug 25, You're Pretty Smart Chippewa Valley

Hey Chippewa Valley! We've been excited here at The BUZZ to receive so many answers to the trivia question for the Downtown Eau Claire Entertainment Package. And so far everyone's been right on the money. I'm really curious if all you people out there who have submitted an answer had to research it, or just knew it because you're a history buff and knew the time period being asked about. Anyways, thanks for playing along, downtown Eau Claire has such a rich history! The contest goes until September 8th so you've still got time to win yourself 4 movie passes to Cameo Budget Twin and pizza at Pizza Plus!
